Diagnostic X-ray Raises Prostate Cancer Risk

May 30th, 2008 Posted in prostate cancer risks

Exposure of the prostate gland to diagnostic radiological procedures may increase cancer risk, according to a UK study in the June 3, 2008 issue of British Journal of Cancer.

Ionizing radiation, commonly used in diagnostic tools and radiotherapy, is a human carcinogen recognized by the U.S. government.  There is no safety threshold and exposure to any dose results in a cumulative cancer-causing effect.
